A test of human decency?

Two days ago, I rear-ended someone in the yield to the merge lane at St. Mary’s and Bishop Grandin. I had seen the person in front of me go, and the Bishop Grandin traffic was clearing after a light transition, so I had assumed they kept going as I looked over my shoulder.

BUMP!

Obviously not, and totally my fault. Fearing the worst for myself, we pulled over and examined the damage. My car was not hurt, and there was only a fine scratch in the plastic bumper of my new acquaintance’s car from my license plate holder. That’s what bumpers are for, right? Anyway, she seemed a little surprised that there wasn’t any damage and is “going to take it to her guy” to have it looked at. We exchanged particulars, and that was that.

Halfway down Bishop Grandin to the university: “Dammit. I should’ve flagged down a witness to attest to the fact that her car had no damage.”

So of course I start thinking the worst. If her car “guy” finds any sort of damage and feels the need to make some cash off the backs of Autopac rate-payers, I get screwed as well. $400 on my next license renewal.

I hope her automotive “guy” is more ethical than the stereotype. I’m desperately in need of some human decency on my side.

    Yo
That’s weird…because I did the exact same thing a few months ago. Really….everything about your story is the same as mine.

The bad news is the person claimed damages even though there was nothing visibly wrong and I paid $200 on my licence. Sucks.

Steve, you think WAY too much. Although, it does seem like the kind of thing that would happen to you. :(

The same thing happened to me last year. There was absolutely NO damage on either car, but the woman came out of the car yelling about wiplash. I told her that since we were in the middle of the intersection we should move out of the way and pull into the parking lot just a few feet ahead of us, and then she yelled at me for trying to move the evidence, or something else equally as stupid.

The thing that made me really scared was that it happend just a block away from Seven Oaks Hospital, and when we started up again, she pulled into the hospital. It made me think she was going to the emergency room for the “wiplash”, even though I hardley hit the car at all.

Nothing came of it, but it freaked me out pretty good!
